## Sakarya {city:sakarya}

<!-- Type or paste the main conclusions for this city here. -->

### Sakarya loc 1 {site:site-a278e074f8d3}
- Transit zone from angled walls (north side) to straight walls (south side)
- Quite some water discharge, estimated flow vel = 0.2 m/s
- Relative average amount of trash, but hard to determine due to flowing water --> hard to compare with empty water channels
- Signs of high water flow (trash in vegetation, vegetation worn out)
- There is space for emptying/installation, but either via the cycling path or partly blocking the road
- The weir appears to have some sensor and thus apperance of some kind of management
- The pole below the bridge is completely covered with branches, riet, vegetation --> appears to show that a lot of green trash is passing the water channel

### Sakarya loc 2 {site:site-4322433870b0}
- Flow velocity is factor 3-4 lower here than at location 1
- Rather deep in the middle of the channel, roughly 1,5 meters

### Sakarya loc 3 {site:site-c9a6fcbf0610}
- Again depth of 1,5 - 2 meters in the middle of the channel
- Appears (different to Kayseri) to be the only water outlet/way in the city
- Appears to be the most "Dutch" location for the current systems --> relatively little changes needed for CanalCleaner
- From the North up untill location 4, there is a double cycling path and small green lane (running down towards the concrete angled walls of the channel) next to the channel

### Sakarya loc4 {site:site-f1cc78f4a8c3}
- Depth here also 1.5 - 2 meters

### Sakarya loc 5 {site:site-b8cfcf87aa95}
- Smaller waterway (at least where the water is located)
- Higher flow velocity (approx. 0.3-0.5 m,/s)
- Appears to be a lot less deep (estimated on 0,5 meters)
- Lots of stones on the bottom of the channel
- Construction side rather close to the channel on this location

### Sakarya loc 6 {site:site-ca444fd8ab31}
- Flow velocity even higher here, roughly 1 m/s

### Sakarya sluis/stuw 2 {site:site-14e632764d65}
- Large blockage in the width, with a small gate for water (50 cm wide)
- The above causes a strong flow of the water further downstream
- Relatively less trash here than more downstream
- Here also appears to be some kind of camera/sensor, good to check whether this registers data

### Sakarya sluis/stuw 3 {site:site-4dacd97c2ec6}
- Similar as the second sluice location
- Only difference that there is a small side channel adding water to the main channel
- *Note for Arnoud: At the recreationplaces there is a lot of trash. This goes to the shores, which is next to the flowing water. Might be good with images to write this in the UN story, the pattern of the trash towards the Black Sea*

### Sakarya sluis/stuw 1 {site:site-3eac3a315816}
- No notes besides the images

## Eskişehir {city:eskisehir}
City with more wider channels, artistic bridges, gondola boats passing by. The higher water levels are most likely caused by the upstream water reservoir. Has a way more touristic vibe, especially in the center, compared to the other cities we visited. Whilst the water levels might be preferential as a location, the fact that we have no connections here, that there is active boat traffic, that the center is hard to reach for placement/emptying a system and the bridges are looking like artwork, makes this place less likely for (a quick) success in terms of catching systems and or monitoring

### Eskisehir loc1 {site:site-e6e10b7b7df5}
- Setup more like the canals in the Netherlands, roughly 10-12 meters wide
- Bridges are quite thick, 3-4 meters
- Artistic bridges, we expect a low chance for cam placement (permission wise)
- Quite some waeter (depth), mbut little flow (at least on moment of visit). The little flow there is appears to be from West to East
- +- 1 plastic / 10 strekkende meter
- Channel sits directly at the boulevard of the touristic centrum, quite hard for placing and emptying the system
- Waterdepth is +- 2 meteres on the edges
- Quite some Gondola boat traffic
- Active cleaning on the shores in this touristic part (we've seen 3-4 people cleaning in the morning)

### Eskisehir loc2 {site:site-f0c2e3509619}
- Sluice location
- Drop-off from the water +- 2 meters
- No boattraffic activity (at least not at the big sluice). There appears to be a smaller boat sluice on the side, but unsure whether this is still active
- Same as loc 1, quite hard to reach for emptying and placing a system
- Upstream of the sluice less active cleaning present --> might lead to more trash
- Pollution relatively equal to Dutch cities like Groninge/Leeuwarden
- Other than points above similar to loc 1

### Eskisehir loc3 {site:site-547c5f6a32f7}
- Same as loc 1, point furthest west we visited
- Only difference is the width of the channel, roughly factor 1.5 more wide

## Kayseri {city:kayseri}
- Traffic is relatively calm, visit locations is easy by car, you can simply park it on the side of the road
- There are plenty of (smaller) channels, often without water, which are hard to see via google maps/earth --> Might be nice if we consider this location to let this be made/sketched by Tolga (where are the channels, if possible, which type of channel)
- 3 types of channels: 1. Concrete U-shape channel, little to know vegetation, straight walls and a concrete bottom. 2. Soft soil as a bottom, 45 deg angled walls, and vegetation on the sides. 3. Mix of both (1 side straight, 1 side 45 deg with vegetation)
- Smaller drainage system leads surface water to the 'big' channels, which is a + for # of trash items, but a - for high discharge in spring --> higher risk for peak discharge
- Universal mount for camears is a big win, most of the bridges have similar mounting locations
- No boat traffic on all locations

### Loc 1 kayseri {site:site-ccecfd72c227}
- 1 - 1,5 meter water height in spring
- channel height +- 3 meter, width +- 5 meter (U-shape)
- Only little water in late summer/winter
- Some minor vegetation in the channels (see images)
- Vertical spijlers diameter of 10 cm, round, the horizontal ones diameter 6-7 cm, also round
- Fences around the channel
- Lots of plastic, +- 100 pieces / 10 strekkende meter
- There is a location to empty, but it's a busy road next to it

### Kayseri loc 2 {site:site-0ab0beb6b94e}
- Completely dry channel
- Less trash (+- 10 / 10 strekkende meter)
- Horizontal base of 5-6 meters (concrete), both sides 45 deg angle of 3 meters long, covered with vegetation
- Fences everywhere, so hard to reach the possible system
- Emptying the system is hard, mostly caused by the by the busy road
- Wider channel than loc 1, so might be safer in terms of peak water flow

### Kayseri loc 3 kayersi {site:site-523a6fe04e1b}
- A lot more vegetation compared to loc 1 and 2 in Kayseri
- Geen good emptying location
- Other stuff is comparable to location 1
- Road is less busy
- Side channel compared to the somewhat bigger channel

### Kayseri loc 4 {site:site-a6dcc03e642f}
- Near the airport, looks rather secured with a big fence, so not a preferable location
- Location is a lot wider (10 meters approx)

### Kayseri loc 5 {site:site-6ee7ee328a1c}
- Main channel again
- Kocasinan Belediyesi is the company who is responsible for the channels
- Busy road on both sides, but there is an "empty" part in the middle, which could be used for possible emptying
- Rather deep channel with high fences, might be an issue for placing the system
- Width is approx. 8 meters, with a depth of approx. 5 meters
- Plenty of plastics on locations
- Multiple drains throughout the city connect to this location
- Well accessible for truck
- Small mini channel in the middle of the channel of approx 20 cm deep and 1 meter wide (see images for more clarity)

### Kayseri loc 6 {site:site-e5e2e7bdaa93}
- Comparable to location 1: concrete bottom and sides, drainage holes in the walls, small lay4er of water
- Location is less busy, at the end of a road, little traffic
- As everywhere, channel is quite depe (3-5 meters), so might be hard for placing the system.

### Kayseri loc 7 {site:site-9ff846c56a8e}
- Road to the bridge is exteremely busy, hard to cross
- Similar to other locations, but more wide & shallow (8 meters wide, 3 meters deep)
- Several small bridges crossing the channel
- Channel merged between 2 busy roads, so hard fo placing system
- Most of the drainage system comes together in this main location (its the main exit route of the city), which could result in a lot of water discharge during wet period
- 20-50 trash items per 10 strekkende meter channel

## Avanos {city:avanos}
Really dry in general, no water to be found in the channels at all. There is a bit more tourism compared to the nearby Gulsehir, but only the big river might be worth considering for monitoring/catching system.

### Avanos loc 1 {site:site-d6c706ac9d6f}
- A lot of vegetation visible
- Also a lot of trash visible, mostly on the sides and riverbed (100+ per 10 strekkende meter)
- More natural channel, so soft soil on the bottom (4 meters wide), angled walls, full of vegetation (2-3 meters long)

### Avanos loc 2 {site:site-f041eaacb286}
- 60 - 100 meters wide: big Kilzehir river
- This specific part was rather undeep (bottom easily visible)
- Low water level, a bit further there was enough water
- Pebbles on the side, a bit more downstream the edge turns to more solid wall
- Little trash visible in and around the water
- Almost no flow visible

## Gülşehir {city:gulsehir}
- Main channel running from the river towards the south
- Channel appears to be rather dry, there is a small water flow towards the river
- Dimensions show possibility for large water flows, appears to reach 1-1.5 meters at peak discharge
- +..

### Gulsehir loc 2 {site:site-07467604631c}
- Same as location 1, but different profiles on the bridge
- Everywhere there is a low green fence
- Not three but two openings below the bridge

### Gulsehir loc 3 {site:site-a3f1e14451f4}
- Bridge is +- 7 meters high
- Channel widens at this bridge
- Again many plastics (+- 100s / 1 strekkende meter)
- Harder to empty and/or place the system, hard to reach due to busier road
- Higher walls

### Gulsehir loc 4 {site:site-c55538247ce0}
- Same dimensions as loc 1-3, walls might be slighlty lower (but not much)
- Factor 10 less plastics than loc 1-3
- A lot more vegetation than before
- Hardly any traffic, road is a lot less busy

### Gulsehir riverloc {site:site-e008fd982b30}
- Between Avanos & Gulsehir the river becomes anastomosing (more then few hundred meters wide)
- Very low water level
- Angled talud, many stones and vegetation
- Hard to reach

### Gulsehir loc 1 {site:site-134adb497757}
- Concrete bottom and walls
- Most trash of all locations so far
- Some spikes of vegetation
- Small water flow (only 1 cm deep, roughly 0.25-0.5 m/s)
- 8 - 10 meters wide
- Mostly foil, bottles
- Spijlers have V shape from the profile, L shape on the bottom and top of the fence is 2x2 cm
- Three openings below the bridge

## Kırşehir {city:kirsehir}

<!-- Type or paste the main conclusions for this city here. -->

### Kirsehir loc1 {site:site-3067724b305c}
- Channel is U-shaped, 8-10 meters wide, 3 meters deep and has a water layer of approx. 5-15 cm.
- A lot of vegetation present in the channels
- 5-10 plastics / 10 strekkende meter (in the water)
- Lots of plastics in both the vegetation (in the channel) and on the edges, estimated on 100+ / 10 strekkende meter
- Fences next to the channel
- Sandy road next to the channel for possible placement and or emptying

### Kirsehir loc 2 {site:site-b74dce4ba43f}
- Similar as loc 1
- Bridge height for possible cam roughly 5 meters to water surface
- A lot less vegetation compared to first loc

### Kirsehir loc 3 {site:site-0f58ac28c0ce}
- Even more trash than loc 1 and 2
- Vegetation density decreased, but the light vegetation still causes plastic trapping
- Overhanging vegetation from the trees next to the channel
- Location is more busy than 1 and 2, approaching the city center
- Especially next to the channel there are huge quantities of trash present
- Plastic present in the overhanging vegetation might be a proxy for the high water level in the channel
- Other points pretty similar to loc 1 and 2.

### Kirsehir loc 4 {site:site-0a18a8c784c6}
- Same as loc 3

### Kirsehir loc 5 {site:site-05262ac9c6e3}
- Vegetation has decreased a lot here
- Bottom appears to be no concrete, but a short layer of sediment
- Trash appears to be less, but that might be caused by the constant water flow here
- Less busy, but also less accessible for emptying and placement
- Depth of the channel is roughly 4 meters
- Looking from the North, there is hardly any vegetation up untill the stadium

### Kirsehir waterpark {site:site-e08f45063653}
- Very clear, appears to be actively cleaned (both water and shore)
- Relatively high water depth (+- 30-50 cm), but very little flow. Probably caused by the upstream blockages
- Large question mark for verankeren at the walls, appears to be a very officail park (touristic attraction of the city)
